Bring back the birch!

Posted on

Happily Laggan Forest Trust is not advocating corporal punishment when they ask us to bring back the birch. They are instead promoting the use of this adaptable timber, and warmly invite you to join former forester and birch expert Bryce Reynard at Laggan Forest for a birch craft workshop.

Mr Reynard is able to make all kinds of items from this tree, from its bark, trunk, twigs and even its roots. He offers a cornucopia of items for display, with some for sale including buttons, pencils, whistles and jewellery. At the workshop he will show you the tricks of his trade and help you make your very own birch craft items to take home.

The workshop will take place outside Laggan Forest Trust’s office at Laggan Wolftrax, Strathmashie on Wednesday 4th July. Places will be limited, so please book ahead. People of all ages are welcome to attend although children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Places are subsidised by Laggan Forest Trust, so that the cost to attendees for the three hour course is a bargain five pounds. Two workshops are available, one beginning at 10am and the next at 2pm.

To book a place please call Iona Malcolm on 01528 544366 or e-mail her at projects@lagganforest.com.
