Laggan Wolftrax Forest Centre

The Laggan Wolftrax Forest Centre was opened in April 2015 with the support of the Cairngorm National Park Authority (CNPA) and Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) to provide permanent facilities for the established mountain biking trails. The Centre is owned and built on LFT land bought from FCS in 2007. The facility comprises public toilets and showers, a café, a bike shop and the LFT office.

The Centre operates as a Social Enterprise run by The Laggan Forest Trust Forestry Company, LFT’s trading arm and only shareholder. It provides employment for the local community through the Laggan Wolftrax Cafe and other small forestry operations.

It is an ongoing challenge to make the centre sustainable and we are always dependent on your support when you use the café.

Summer 2022 Improvements

The objective for the building extension was to provide a safe covered facility around the external perimeter of the existing Laggan Wolftrax Forest Centre. Now completed, this has resulted in  a vastly improved visitor experience interpretation panels which highlights local history and archaeology, forest paths and mountain bike trails.

Partial Funding for the project came  from Highland and Islands Enterprise and CNPA with one of the criteria  being to commission as much of the work as possible locally to the Badenoch and Strathspey area. Time was also critical in that the funds provided by HIE required to be used by mid March 2021. As a result, the Trust commissioned Spey Building and Joinery from Kingussie to undertake a design and build project.

The objectives for the project were:

  1. Enhance the overall visitor experience in and around the Forest and Trail centre.
  2. Create improved Interpretation Panels and display area for visitors.
  3. Adapt the centre to allow it to operate in any future pandemic scenario where social distancing can be readily accommodated.
  4. Enable visitors to our area to ”linger longer” to take in the breathtaking scenery in the Laggan and surrounding area.
