Connecting Laggan Community - Places for Everyone 2019 - 2023
April 2019
Together with Sustrans, and acting on behalf of the Laggan Community Council, LFT has embarked upon looking at improving connectivity with new walking and cycle paths throughout the Laggan area and community – a project that was first explored in 2007-08 and now being resurrected.
The first stage of this project will look into the feasibility of connecting the three settlements of Strathmashie, Catlodge and Balgowan with the main village.
A funding grant was received from the Sustrans's "Places for Everyone Fund" in early July 2019 and the project has kicked-off.
December 2019 update
Following on from The Big Conversation in June 2019 and the agreed Laggan Community Action Plan, one of the top priorities identified was for paths (cycle/walking) linking different parts of the wider community.
August 2022 update
Following a significant hiatus during COVID restrictions, the project group presented initial proposals at a community meeting in August 2022 with agreement to proceed to discussions with Transport Scotland for the implications to be assessed for Road Safety design and potential speed restrictions in the area for both the A86 and A889. Crossings are likely to be needed on both Trunk Roads to allow a suitable safe walking and cycling route "off road" from Laggan Village to Strathmashie via Gorstean.
It is early days to being able to "cut turf", but thanks to continuing support from the Places for Everyone Fund from Sustrans, the Laggan Community Paths project is still able to go ahead.
