Multi-use purpose trail project starting 27th November 2020

Works for the proposed path improvements are due to start on 27th November 2020 for 2 weeks.
The proposal is to realign and create a new section of 1.5m wide footpath through a firebreak to replace the existing 145m steep, narrow portion with a 220m wider path on a reduced gradient (from 22% to 9%). The existing footpath will be relocated approximately 100m to the west at the furthest point.
The land is owned by Forestry and Land Scotland. Laggan Forest Trust has been granted permission to carry out the improvements.
The Multi-use purpose trail project is a transnational LEADER co-operation project between the Community Woodlands Association in Scotland and the Sjö, Skog & Fjäll Local Action Group in Sweden. The objective of the project is to share innovative techniques and best practice for the construction, promotion and management of mixed-use trails (i.e. where it is likely that multiple user groups: pedestrians, cyclists, riders might interact). LFT is a partner in the project and it will look into improving a potential Heritage Trail in a specific section that needs a reduction in gradient to make it available to a wider audience.
