Bhangra-tastic! Bollywood Banquet a roaring success!

Posted on

Lucknow came to Laggan last Friday when The Laggan Forest Trust held a Bollywood Banquet in the village hall.

A fantastic array of curries was cooked up by local Indian chef Naeela Shahzad, of Aviemore. The delicious dishes were served to the sixty diners by a crack team of volunteer waitresses, all beautifully clad in Indian sarees.

Entertainment was provided by Louise Marshall and Alex Emerson, Community Dance Workers from Eden Court Theatre. Louise and Alex gave a stunning performance of Bhangra dancing to the popular song “Jai Ho” best known from the Oscar-winning film “Slumdog Millionaire”.

After their own performance, Alex and Louise persuaded the diners to join in from their seats, with a dance they described as “a Bollywood Macarena” and soon Laggan Village Hall was reverberating to the sound of Bhangra music and enthusiastic dancing.

The Laggan Forest Trust’s Development Manager, Robin Jackson, said “Tickets to the Bollywood Banquet sold out almost immediately and we would like to thank those who attended for their fantastic support and enthusiastic participation! LFT would also like to thank the team of volunteers who worked tirelessly to serve the capacity crowd, and created all the delicious desserts.”

Robin added “Last but not least, we would like to thank the dancers, Alex and Louise, from Eden Court, for a truly amazing performance, and chef Naeela Shahzad, of Authentic Indian Cookery, Aviemore, who really cooked up a storm!”

The Laggan Forest Trust’s programme of autumn events continues in October with Pony Riding on 14th October, Autumn Foraging on 21st October, and Birchcraft on 27th October. For full details or to book a place please call 01528 544366 or see the events page here pm the LFT website.
