All weather shinty for Gergask Primary School

Posted on

The children of Gergask Primary School are devoted shinty players and Laggan Forest Trust found them training outside in cold winds last week (see picture). Even these hardy souls are driven inside during the winter snows and at these times training takes place in Laggan Village Hall.

Laggan Forest Trust board member John Craig is also one of the coaches of Gergask Primary School’s shinty team, and served both these roles when he organised Laggan’s New Year Dance this year. The money raised for the Trust included a sum which was spent on new indoor camans for the children, so that they can train indoors throughout the winter.

Davy Campbell, Chair of The Laggan Forest Trust, commented, “The Laggan Forest Trust is delighted to be able to support the activities of Gergask Primary School with this donation. As well as getting children (and their parents!) outdoors in Strathmashie Forest, we are also keen to support their sporting endeavours at home and at school.”

Mrs Alda Munro, Head Teacher at Gergask, led the children in a rousing round of three cheers for The Laggan Forest Trust as a thank you for the gift. Hip! Hip! Hurray! for them too!
